Animal Care Centers of NYC is closed to the public except for emergencies.

Emergency walk-in hours are:

  • Brooklyn and Manhattan: 7 days a week, 10 AM - 5 PM
  • Staten Island: 7 days a week, 9 AM - 5 PM

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty (ASPCA) provides instructions, dates, and locations of mobile clinics for spaying or neutering of cats and dogs.

You can also get information about spay-neuter services provided by other non-profit organizations.

The ASPCA offers spay and neuter services at mobile clinics for cats and dogs belonging to New York City residents. They are available every day in all five boroughs.

If you receive public assistance, such as welfare, medicaid, Medicare, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), disability, food stamps, or public housing, your cost will be heavily discounted. Those not receiving public assistance will be charged $125.00.

Know Before You Go

Cost

The cost to the general public is $125 per animal.

If you show proof of public assistance, such as Medicaid, Medicare, food stamps, SSI, disability, or a rent receipt from public housing, you will be charged a much lower rate.

If you are on unemployment but receive no other public assistance you will be charged $125.

Spay-Neuter Mobile Clinic Guidelines

The mobile clinic takes up to 25 animals on a first-come, first-served basis. You should arrive before 7 AM and be prepared to wait in line before the clinic van arrives.

The following rules apply:

  • All animals must be at least 8 weeks old or weigh at least 2 pounds and be in good health. Other medical services are not provided.
  • Animals under 4 months old should have a small meal at around 6 AM the day of the surgery. Animals older than 4 months should not be fed after midnight the night before.
  • Do not withhold water from your pet before you come to the clinic.
  • Bring all cats in carriers, with one cat per carrier. Bring dogs on leashes.
  • You will be told what time that same afternoon you should pick up your pet.

Services Provided

Services for pets undergoing spay or neuter surgery include vaccination for rabies and distemper and a nail trim. Additionally, microchips are available for $20 and an e-collar for $5.

Foreign Travel Requirements for Pets

Each foreign country has different regulations for papers and vaccinations for pets that are traveling.  You should contact the embassy of the country to which you are traveling.

The regulations may change often, due to current diseases that may be present in a country.

    The ASPCA's "Operation Pit" offers free spay, neuter, or vasectomy services for Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes. Optional free vaccinations and microchips are also available.

    The Humane Society of New York Animal Clinic, located at 306 East 59th Street in Manhattan, provides affordable spay and neuter services for dogs and cats. Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes are spayed or neutered for free.
