Coronavirus (COVID-19) Alert

New York City parks and playgrounds are open.

All park goers are asked to take extra precautions to stay healthy and safe.

  • Stay home if you are sick
  • Wear a face covering
  • Practice social distancing - stay at least six feet from others
  • Wash your hands frequently

The City is monitoring social distancing in parks that have a mix of tight spaces and large crowds.

Park restrooms are open and cleaned daily with appropriate cleaning products to ensure that they are being fully disinfected.

Park Closures

  • Dyckman Farmhouse Park
  • Queens Farm Park
  • Roger Morris Park

Facility Closures

  • NYC Parks Recreation Centers (all memberships extended to cover the length of time closed).
  • Amusement parks and carousels. 
  • Nature centers, and historic houses.
  • Swedish Cottage, Arsenal Gallery, visitor’s Centers, and historic houses.
  • Ice skating rinks.
  • Stables will remain operational, but closed to the general public.
  • GreenThumb gardens are closed only if garden leadership deems it unsafe to open.

Open Facilities

  • Outdoor basketball, handball, tennis, bocce, and volleyball courts (You should continue to wear face coverings, follow social distancing rules and avoid high-contact games, such as pick-up basketball and team sports.)
  • Dog runs (Off-leash rules still apply. All dog owners should keep their dogs on a leash and maintain at least six feet of distance from other people and animals.)
  • Farmers markets and gas stations
  • Some snack bars and restaurants remain open for takeout or delivery
  • Skate parks and grilling areas are open

Programming and Service Changes

  • Adventures NYC is cancelled.
  • Kayak, canoe, and boat launch permits are not available at this time. 
  • Marinas, boatyards, and boat launches are open for personal use of vessels only. Vessel charters, rentals, and group activities or social gatherings are prohibited. Patrons must practice social distancing at all times and wear a face covering where social distancing is not possible. 
  • NYC's tennis season is delayed until further notice. Tennis permit sales have been suspended for the 2020 season. If you have already purchased a tennis permit, it will be valid through 2021.

Open Streets

Dog Runs

Dog runs are large, fenced-in areas where dogs can exercise unleashed. Certain park areas allow dogs to be off-leash from the time the park opens until 9 AM and from 9 PM until the park closes. Dogs that are off-leash in these areas must have dog licenses and their owners must carry proof of the dog's rabies vaccination.
