If you had food or medicine that spoiled during a power outage, you can file a claim with Con Edison to be reimbursed for the lost goods.
You must submit a claim within 30 days of the power outage. You may only file a claim with Con Edison if your power was out for more than 12 hours in a 24 hour period.
If the power outage was caused by conditions such as a storm, flooding, or vandalism, then Con Edison cannot provide reimbursement.
Residential Claims
Residential customers may file claims of up to $500 for actual losses of spoiled food. All claims must include an itemized list. For claims over $220, you must also provide evidence such as receipts or photographs along with the itemized list.
Residential customers may file claims of any amount for actual losses of spoiled prescription medicine. For these claims you must include an itemized list AND evidence, such as pharmacy receipts or prescription labels.
Commercial Claims
Commercial customers may file claims of up to $9,900 for actual losses of perishable merchandise. You must itemize all claims and provide evidence such as receipts or invoices.
