Coronavirus (COVID-19) Alert

City Clerk offices are currently closed and aren’t providing in-person services, but you and your future spouse can now get a marriage license online.

Project Cupid allows couples to schedule and attend a virtual appointment with the City Clerk’s Office, upload required documents for the license, and submit the signed license after completing the marriage ceremony.

Other services like Domestic Partnership registration and the ability to have the City Clerk perform Marriage Ceremonies will be available at a later time.

Report a problem with a marriage license.

The Office of the City Clerk performs marriage ceremonies throughout the day in all five City Clerk borough offices. You do not need an appointment. You, your prospective spouse, and witness should arrive between 8:30 AM and 3:15 PM, Monday through Friday. The cost is $25, payable by credit card or money order.

To get married at the City Clerk's Office, you must bring all of the following:

  • A valid New York State Marriage License
  • At least one witness over the age of 18
  • Credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express) or money order of $25, payable to the City Clerk

You, your prospective spouse, and at least one witness must bring the same type of photo identification that was used to obtain the Marriage License.

If you or your prospective spouse is under the age of 18, the parents of both you and your prospective spouse must be present and have proper identification.

In Manhattan, there can be no more than 10 attendees, including you and your prospective spouse. In all other boroughs, there can be no more than 5 attendees, including you and your prospective spouse.

Once the civil marriage ceremony is complete, you will get a Marriage Certificate on that same day.
