Alternate Side Parking Schedule (through 9/15)

Through July 25: ASP in effect
July 27 - August 2: ASP suspended
August 3 - August 14: ASP in effect
August 15: ASP suspended for Feast of the Assumption
August 17 - September 5: ASP in effect

All other parking rules remain in effect.

Parking meters also remain in effect throughout the City except on Sundays. On Sundays, ASP is not in effect and you don't have to pay parking meters.

ASP Reform Rules

On days when ASP is in effect, residential streets will not be cleaned more than once a week on each side.

If a side of a street has an ASP sign showing multiple days, street cleaning regulations will be in effect on that side of the street only on the latest day posted on the sign.

For example, if the ASP sign says the side of the street is cleaned on Mondays and Thursdays, you only have to move your car from that side of the street on Thursday.

There are no changes to:

Streets that have just one day of ASP regulations on each side
Commercial streets or metered areas

These new ASP reform rules will continue through Labor Day when ASP is in effect. The City will assess cleanliness conditions throughout the summer to decide whether to extend or modify the new rules after Labor Day.

Open Streets

When ASP is in effect on an Open Street, vehicles should leave the street and may return after ASP is over. If barriers are in place, they should be set up in a way that cars can drive around them. While driving in and out of the street, please watch for pedestrians and travel at 5 MPH.

Parking Tickets

Any New Yorker under isolation who has received a ticket can request a hearing with the Department of Finance and should provide medical documentation or testimony, which will be taken into consideration when their case is reviewed. The Department of Transportation (DOT) maintains and installs New York City parking regulation signs. All of these signs are metal and include the agency name and sign code.

311 cannot give you information on how NYC parking rules might apply to specific situations, including questions about parking at a specific location.

You should follow the rules posted about time limits and whether it is legal or illegal to park in a specific area.

Because New York City Traffic Rules only require one sign for each block, you should check the whole block and read all signs carefully before you park.

Taxi and for-hire vehicle relief stands allow taxi and for-hire drivers to park and leave their vehicles for up to one hour to take care of personal needs.

Parking is allowed in school zones when school is in recess. However, you should be aware that specific schools may be open on holidays and during summer vacations. Parking restrictions would remain in effect.

Parking restrictions remain in effect while schools are doing distance learning.

Also, when schools are open for summer sessions, teacher meetings, or similar activities, the parking regulations apply on such days, even if students aren't attending.

You should contact the specific school to verify that it's in recess.

Vehicles parked illegally in metered spaces set aside for buses south of Houston Street in Manhattan may be issued parking tickets daily between the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM.

Three types of parking violations can be issued:

To vehicles with a bus plate type that exceeds the meter's three-hour limit.
To vehicles with a bus plate type parked in these spaces that are not displaying a valid Department of Transportation-issued bus permit.
To vehicles other than buses parked in these metered bus spaces.
